Bob Diamond quits as Barclays chief

Barclays chief executive Bob Diamond has resigned with immediate effect.

His resignation comes less than a week after Barclays was fined £290 million for trying to manipulate LIBOR rates.

Diamond became CEO of Barclays on Jan. 1, 2011 after joining the bank in 1996. Marcus Agius, who said on Monday (July 2, 2012) he would step down as Chairman, will take over the running of Barclays until a replacement is found.
